To register for this qualification, learners must be aged 18 and over.
Learners will need to show that they hold a current and valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate* that meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. It is an SIA requirement that training centres must confirm that each learner is sufficiently qualified in First Aid or Emergency First Aid.
This qualification prepares learners to work as licensed Door Supervisors within the private security industry. It provides the essential knowledge and practical skills required to manage security, safety, conflict and physical intervention in licensed premises, event environments and corporate settings.
Course Content Includes:
- Role and responsibilities of a Door Supervisor
- Licensing law and workplace legislation
- Searching of persons and property (with consent and without consent considerations)
- Incident management and emergency response
- Drug awareness, prohibited items and venue safeguarding
- Customer care, communication and professional conduct
- Conflict management and de-escalation strategies
- Risk awareness, dynamic assessment and situational scanning
- Introduction to counter-terrorism awareness (ACT guidance)
- Practical Physical Intervention Skills, including:
- Safe positioning and movement
- Non-restrictive disengagement techniques
- Understanding risk, medical safeguards and positional asphyxia awareness
Assessment
Assessment consists of:
- Multiple-choice exams covering knowledge and legislation
- Scenario-based conflict management activities
- Practical demonstration of physical intervention techniques
- Professional discussion and instructor-led observation
Certification
Upon successful completion, learners receive the Level 2 Award for Door Supervisors in the Private Security Industry, enabling application for an SIA Door Supervisor Licence (subject to standard licensing requirements and identity/background checks).
Entry Requirement – First Aid
Learners must hold an in-date Level 3 First Aid qualification before attending or completing the course (minimum 12 hours training).
