What will I learn?
This course is suitable for those who already understand general export procedures and want to understand the additional requirements that apply specifically to food and drink. Exporting food carries an extra layer of control on top of standard customs procedures, and getting it wrong can mean rejected consignments, delays, or goods being destroyed at the border. This course explains what makes food different and how to comply confidently, whichever market you are exporting to.
Specifically, we cover:
- Why food is different: the sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) controls that sit on top of standard export procedures
- Categorising products by risk, to include:
- Products of animal origin
- Composite products
- High-risk food not of animal origin
- Other food and drink
- Export documentation, including Export Health Certificates, phytosanitary certificates, catch certificates, and private attestations
- Country listing, establishment approval, and certification: the three requirements for animal product exports
- Exporting to the EU: Border Control Posts, pre-notification, and current restrictions
- Exporting to non-EU markets: destination-driven requirements and market access
- Moving food to Northern Ireland under the Windsor Framework
- Customs and tariff considerations specific to food, including classification and tariff rate quotas
- Labelling, packaging and traceability requirements
- The upcoming UK-EU SPS Agreement and how it will change the process
